Båalmaldahkesne - Entwined

The two time Spellemann Award winner Marja Mortensson is launching her new album Båalmaldahkesne – Entwined on the 7th of June, 2024.

The literal translation of Båalmaldahkesne is to be entwined, as two braids that have been joined together. The album sets out to explore how our lives are braided into the weft of the cultures that we belong to. The album’s ten tracks each tell a story of how our lives are being actively intertwined and woven into each other. Families, children, each and every relation that together foster a sense of belonging and unity, thus giving life and strength to pass on our heritage to future generations.

The yoik, which never ceases to amaze us with its myriad of notes that together reflect human thoughts and emotions. Our language, which adds colour to the canvas of our everyday lives. A child’s unmatched ability to live in the moment. Our youth’s fighting spirit, which they use to fight for our future. The weather and our nature, which shape the conditions of the lives that we choose to lead. Marja carefully weaves a captivating and modern universe out of her stories and yoiks, aided by her co-composer Daniel Herskedal and fellow musician Jakop Janssønn.
